Virtual MFA device is an easy-to-use app that runs on mobile devices (such as smart phone) and can generate a six-digit verification code based on TOTP (RFC 6238, TOTP: Time-Based One-Time Password Algorithm) standard. Because these apps can run on unsecured mobile devices, virtual MFA might not provide the same level of security as hardware MFA devices.
